The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) defines a successful comprehensive counseling program as one that is “driven by student data and based on standards in academic, career and personal/social development, while promoting and enhancing the learning process for all students.” In keeping with the recommended model developed by ASCA, our counseling department seeks to develop student competencies by providing responsive academic counseling, supportive social/emotional counseling, as well as exposure to resources that support students through the career discernment process and the transition to the university environment.

Other components of our comprehensive services include formal and informal assessments which guide curriculum at the classroom, small group, and individual level. Collaboration with parents and guardians, as well as other professionals in the SVA community, is critical to the success of a comprehensive counseling program. We look forward to this continued collaboration as we strive to provide meaningful opportunities for our students at SVA.
